A Progressive Smart City in Colorado Caught Gouging Water Prices to the Tune of $70 Million. Increased Mill Levies and Bonds Up Next.

Sometimes you get seated in a restaurant next to someone who likes to talk loudly. Luckily for EGF, we were sitting next to an unknown administrator from the City of Brighton who was having drinks with another unidentified male. The city administrator opened up about the turmoil of a progressive, smart city government where multiple recalls, city manager firing, and resignations galore. He went on to state the main culprit stemmed from residents suddenly receiving $1,000.00 monthly water bills, causing a $70 Million slush fund for the City. During this price gouging, the progressive democrat mayor Ken Kreutzer, after terminating the city manager Philip Rodriguez for whistleblowing about the corruption, was recalled and removed. Here is Brighton’s current response to where the $70 Million went.

The city administrator discussed his new plan for the City to increase the mill levy and bring in an additional $140 Million into the city coffers. The administrator continued by stating that 50% of the $140 Million would be on the backs of the businesses and the other half coming on the backs of homeowners. He said no one would object to another $20 to $40 bucks on their tax bill for new infrastructure. He said, “did you hear what Denver West just got away with to their taxpayers?” He couldn’t believe it but indicated that if they could get away with that, a mill levy increase would easily stay off the radar.

The administrator went on about raising additional funds through muni bonds, in which he added that one new bond was recently approved. This bonding process is how cities finance infrastructure, but the interest comes at a cost. Borrow $20,080,000.00 and add in repayment interest of $28,415,906.00 and the taxpayers are on the hook for $48,495,906.00. What a bargain, and it kicks the can down the road to 2060. Additional muni bonds are in talks to add more revenue to the city bank account. Upon further layer peeling, the City is adding another water muni-bond this week for $81,000,000.00, costing the taxpayers and users over $170,000,000.00. Ultimately, users and taxpayers are on the hook for progressive policies, and no surprise water rates are going up up and away. Hold on to your wallets as long as you are able.

The recall effort was an outstanding effort by activist citizens demanding answers from this progressive government gone wild. You can visit the Brighton Recall website or read the details below now archived on EGF. Please use this blueprint on how to perform a recall if your city, town, or county government is out of control. A simple blog site is easy and inexpensive to start.

During EGF’s internet searching of this progressive, smart city, we located this leftist grassroots group influencing city political landscapes on the front range. Meet IFRR Indivisible Front Range Resistance. “Indivisible Front Range Resistance (IFRR) is a citizen-led group representing communities along Colorado’s Front Range. IFRR is focused on local, state, and federal policy and elections and is dedicated to effecting progressive change through contacting members of Congress, social media campaigns, coordination with allied organizations, and peaceful participation in rallies, marches, and town halls.” IFRR pays close attention to the City of Brighton with some revealing intel they keep on their wiki website showing D’s & R’s on the elected board. Another recently resigned Brighton councilman, Kris Jordinelli, goes off the wall during a council meeting. “Ward 3 Councilman Kris Jordinelli went off on a bizarre rant during the middle of the virtual meeting, following other strange behavior earlier in the evening.” A year later, the councilman resigned for receiving a DUI en route a bit late to another meeting night. You just can’t make this stuff up.

There are stories within this story no one is talking about regarding this progressive-run city. Brighton has one of the highest tax rates in the state at 8.5%, along with some of the poorest water quality. Finally, sprinkle in the homelessness caused by progressive policies, and there is no wonder why Almost Home is based right in Brighton. Democrats and RINOs have controlled Brighton for at least ten years, and they can’t blame the good ole boys any longer. Keep an eye on this dysfunctional, progressive, smart city that is not looking so smart. Also, keep an eye on the United Nations International Credit Organization office in Brighton since 2017. EGF will follow along and keep you updated on any more City of Brighton government gone wild moments.
